Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang spent July 15 and 16 in Tokyo courting Japan’s industrial and chip-supply elite, following a Taiwan keynote weeks earlier and a South Korea visit last fall. He left with a national AI factory commitment, partnerships across Japan’s leading robotics manufacturers, and agreements with chip-material suppliers feeding Nvidia’s next generation of hardware. One CEO leaving a single two-day trip with deals spanning an entire country’s industrial base is what NewsTrackerToday banks on as the more consequential outcome than any single announcement inside it.
The centerpiece is Noetra, a sovereign-AI initiative pulling together roughly 44 Japanese firms, with SoftBank, Sony, NEC, and Honda at the core, built specifically so Japan’s factories, vehicles, and robots run on homegrown foundation models rather than American or Chinese ones. Tokyo is committing up to 1 trillion yen, roughly $6.2 billion, over five years to fund the software side. But the physical infrastructure that software runs on is still entirely Nvidia’s.
