A Humanoid Robot Startup Just Raised $152 Million. Bosch Is Building the Robots

UK-based robotics startup Humanoid raised $152 million in a Series A round at a post-money valuation of $1.35 billion, bringing its total funding to $270 million, as investors continue pouring money into companies building robots designed to augment human labor. The round was led by Prime Movers Lab, with participation from Schaeffler, Bosch, Fubon Financial Holding Venture Capital, and Aglaé Ventures. A robotics startup this early in commercial deployment already locking in a Fortune-500-grade manufacturing partner is what NewsTrackerToday sizes to as the more significant detail than the valuation figure alone.

That manufacturing partner is Bosch itself, which will serve as Humanoid’s contract-manufacturing partner while also providing technical expertise across hardware design, production, and supply chain operations, on top of its role as an investor in this same funding round. That’s a dual relationship, Bosch is both bankrolling Humanoid and building its robots, which gives the German industrial giant unusually direct visibility into and influence over a competitor-adjacent category it’s simultaneously investing in.

Isabella Moretti reads the strategic logic behind Bosch’s dual role: “Investing in a startup while also serving as its contract manufacturer is a hedge, not just a bet. If Humanoid’s robots succeed commercially, Bosch profits both as an equity holder and as the manufacturing partner capturing production revenue. If the category disappoints, Bosch has still gained hands-on manufacturing experience and technical insight into humanoid robotics it can apply elsewhere in its own industrial portfolio. That’s a much lower-risk way to enter a speculative category than building an in-house competitor from scratch.” That dual-exposure structure, more than the funding total, is what NewsTrackerToday folds on as the more instructive way legacy industrial firms are approaching humanoid robotics right now.

Humanoid’s plans extend beyond this single funding round: the company intends to use the proceeds to develop its next-generation robot platform, expand its proprietary AI software layer called KinetIQ, fund commercial deployments with industrial customers, and begin mass manufacturing of wheeled robots specifically, alongside beta robot deployments at customer sites planned for the fourth quarter of this year across manufacturing, logistics, retail, and other industrial sectors.

Ethan Cole reads the labor-market framing behind this entire funding wave tersely: “Every investor pitch in this category leans on the same premise, labor shortages in manufacturing and logistics that robots can fill. That’s a real, measurable gap in a lot of these sectors right now. But a $1.35 billion valuation for a company still in beta deployment prices in years of execution risk that hasn’t been tested yet, wheeled robots working reliably in retail environments is a genuinely different problem than the same robots working on a controlled factory floor.” That gap between valuation and proven deployment, more than the labor-shortage narrative driving it, is what News Tracker Today stacks to as the real risk sitting underneath this round.

The company also cited existing partnerships with SAP, Nvidia, Bosch, and Siemens, and recently signed a separate agreement with Schaeffler specifically covering the planned deployment of thousands of humanoid robots across Schaeffler’s manufacturing facilities, a commitment that, if it materializes at that scale, would represent one of the largest humanoid robot deployments announced by any single industrial customer to date.

None of this confirms Humanoid’s technology will actually perform at the scale its funding round and industrial partnerships suggest investors expect, since beta deployments starting this quarter are the first real test of whether the company’s wheeled robots work reliably outside controlled conditions. Whether the Schaeffler deployment and Bosch manufacturing partnership actually scale to the thousands-of-robots figure being discussed, or whether this becomes another humanoid robotics valuation that outran what the hardware could actually deliver on schedule, is what NewsTrackerToday lands with as the real test facing this company over the next several quarters.
